Jimmy’s Jobs of the Future: The next chapter
The TL: DR the podcast I launched as a lockdown project to help tackle the surge of unemployment is growing at a rapid pace and therefore we are hiring. So if you are curious about the future, have creative ideas and want to help people understand the future of the economy, work and entrepreneurship … read on.
Job Description — Associate — Jimmy’s Jobs of the Future
If you want to join a growing company that is reaching thousands of people on a weekly basis and is listened to at the top levels of Government, the media and the investor community, this may be the role for you.
You will be curious, ambitious and ready to challenge me on my assumptions.
You won’t be afraid of mucking in and doing some of the basics, whatever the 2021 equivalent of taping wires to the floor is (see below for that story)
Our primary objective is to help us get the show into as many ears as possible.
You’ll be creative and think of innovative ways to write up the content of our interviews and how we can disseminate them through different channels.
You’ll feed in guest ideas, research the guests and prep questions and help a dyslexic.
I want people from different generations to come and help inform the world about the exciting growing sectors of the future like data, AI, media & entertainment, e-sports and healthcare.
It will not be a job for life, chances are you’ll go to one of the amazing companies we have on the show. We will think about your development a fair amount — after all that is the point of the show.
Above all, you’ll have imagination and ideas — proof of implementation of ideas is essential, as Pete Flint from NFX said in his interview, these can have originated from anywhere in schools, universities and or local communities.
You’ll probably have perhaps a year or two experience of working in some form of technology / entrepreneurship ecosystem and or be able to demonstrate an interest and a passion for it.
You will work predominantly remotely so you can be based anywhere in the UK, with travel to London probably once a month or so. There is flexibility to consider a 4 day working week if you have other projects you are working on.
We will not be able to respond to everyone that applies, but this is just the first step, so keep an eye on our social channels and newsletter.
If the following questions interest you:
What would you consider the three most interesting and fastest growing sectors and industries?
What makes up your media diet? This can include podcasts, newsletters, any resources that you use to inform yourself about the future of business, economics and entrepreneurship.
Who would make a great future guest for the podcast and why?

About Jimmy’s Jobs of the Future
‘Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity’, a quote attributed to the Roman philosopher, Seneca.
Or in other words you make your own luck. Go out, meet people, try things and the luckier you get is the wisdom …
This is true up to a point, but knowing where to start looking, where to put yourself and how to prepare is a whole knowledge skill set in itself.
I have been lucky. I have worked hard all my life, but I have had some huge chunks of luck along the way.
Not everyone gets that career luck and that is why I started Jimmy’s Jobs of the Future six months ago. To inform and excite people about the amazing opportunities that entrepreneurs were creating and to do it in an accessible format.
It has gone better than I had anticipated, racking up thousands of listeners, appearing in Apple’s top 20 business podcasts regularly and a steady stream of listeners applying to the companies that have been featured on the show. We are only two weeks into April, but it’s easily our best month on record. Thanks to Octopus we now have some financial capital too.
If I could sum up the mission of Jimmy’s Jobs in an equation it would be the following:
Social Capital + Contacts + knowledge + accessibility = opportunity
This mission is personal and comes from my own career path. In reality, I stumbled into politics, through a lack of information about anything else. As with most kids, they pick up their parents profession by a form of osmosis. They end up knowing more about it at school than anyone else and therefore they enjoy it more, or that is what happened to me.
The world has shifted dramatically in the last 10 years, there are more career options and indeed, even more information out there, it is exciting but even more challenging to navigate through it.
I was lucky enough to work with Boris Johnson on his Mayoral Campaign in 2008. Very lucky not to break his bike on the first day, when I was taping wires to the floor …
The equation outlined above is my attempt to try and disseminate accessible information about what entrepreneurs are doing, where they are hiring and where people can get involved.
The simple challenge we now have is to get it into more ears, more channels in more creative ways.
We are trying to inform people about the amazing entrepreneurial stories that are out there and to give everyone a chance of understanding what the future of jobs and careers looks like.
I hope you find that exciting, or if you know someone that might, send it to them.
